Hey Friends! π
Fall family portraits are one of my favorite times of the year. Thereβs just something about those warm Fall colors, beautiful light, and families coming together to capture this season of life.
And here in Texas, we have to remember thatΒ Fall doesnβt necessarily mean cold!Β π
So if youβre getting ready for your family portraits this year, Iβve put together a few simple tips to help you feel prepared and confident when you step in front of my camera.
π 1. Coordinate, Donβt Match
Gone are the days of everyone showing up in matching white shirts and jeans!
Instead, choose a fewΒ Fall-inspired colorsΒ that work well together. Think warm neutrals, rust, burgundy, olive, mustard, denim, cream and soft browns.
You don't have to put everyone in the same colors. Mixing those shades throughout your family creates a more natural and timeless look.
π€ 2. Think Texas Fall When You Choose Your Outfits
This is an important one!
It's still warm here in Texas, so don't feel like you have to put everyone in heavy sweaters and jackets just because it's Fall. π
You can absolutely create a beautiful Fall look withΒ lighter fabrics, short sleeves, dresses, jeans, skirts and lightweight topsΒ in those gorgeous autumn colors.
And layers are still your friend! A lightweight cardigan, denim jacket or shacket can easily be added for a different look without everyone melting in the Texas sunshine.
πΈ 3. Keep It Comfortable
Especially when little ones are involved, comfortable clothing makes a BIG difference.
Choose clothes that allow everyone to move, sit, play and be themselves. If someone is uncomfortable in their outfit, they're probably not going to be very excited about having their picture taken.
And don't worry about getting everyone to behave perfectly. Some of my favorite images happen in those little in-between moments when everyone is simply being themselves.
π 4. Pay Attention to Your Session Time
Beautiful Fall portraits are all about the light!
ForΒ Autumn at the Greenhouse, I'll be planning our sessions around the best available light so we can take advantage of that beautiful warm glow.
And because Fall sessions are limited, your scheduled time is important. Plan to arrive with a few minutes to spare so you're not walking in feeling rushed.
π 5. Don't Overthink It!
This might actually be my favorite tip.
Your family doesn't have to look perfect. Your children don't have to smile perfectly in every picture. And you don't have to worry about making everything happen exactly the way you imagined.
That's my job.Β β€οΈ
I'll guide you through the session, interact with the kiddos, watch for those sweet little moments and help you create portraits that feel natural and genuine.
Your job?
Show up and love on your people.
I'll take care of the rest. πΈ
